SERVING OTHERS

Talk about and live out your faith with others outside of the church

HOW TO TAKE ACTION:

  • Help someone in need, be kind, and share
  • Call and/or check in on elderly/shut in neighbors; offer to run errands, give them rides to appointments or deliver their groceries
  • Initiate conversations and shared meals with people who don’t attend church; then find ways to help/serve them
  • Invite those without a church home to serve or attend worship

Use your gifts and passions to serve in your community

HOW TO TAKE ACTION:

  • Donate or volunteer with a variety of church-sponsored and other organizations. (Donation and Volunteer Opportunities)
  • Prayerfully consider continuing to pay/give as you can to non-salaried service industry workers unable to do their jobs in this time of quarantine/social isolation.
  • Start a new ministry to bless others

Serve beyond the local community

HOW TO TAKE ACTION:

  • Donate or volunteer with a variety of church-sponsored and other organizations. (Donation and Volunteer Opportunities)
  • Go on a church-sponsored mission trip

Explore Christian responses to pressing social justice issues

HOW TO TAKE ACTION:

  • If you are over the age of 18, register to vote and exercise your right to vote at every opportunity. The Collin County League of Women Voters provides great election resources and unbiased information about the candidates in our area.
  • Join the Critical Conversations on Race group at Suncreek to learn more about a Christian response to systemic racism and white privilege.
  • Visit here for United Methodist information and resources on a variety of social justice related topics (lots of links within that page)
  • The Social Principles of the United Methodist Church outline our denomination’s current stance on a variety of issues, and offers insight into how United Methodists might respond to various concerns or efforts surrounding human, environmental, family, and social concerns of our day. (However, it is important to note that the Social Principles are not a legally binding document of the UMC and not all churches or members agree with these positions).
  • Research causes that matter to you and find ways to help promote the issue, get involved in local events or groups that seek justice, or organize your own efforts.
  • Use Resist Bot as an easy way to contact your legislators and let your voice be heard.
