Dear Suncreek Family,

Bishop Michael McKee and our four District Superintendents are entrusted with the difficult task of prayerfully discerning pastoral leadership for the 300+ United Methodist churches of the great Dallas area, working with the 'big picture' of the North Texas mission field in mind. After much prayer and reflection, these spiritual leaders have asked me to take on a new assignment. I have been appointed to be the Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Coppell, beginning this summer. Recently their beloved pastor of many years announced his unexpected retirement, creating a void in leadership in that faith community. While I did not request or anticipate this change, I do understand the discernment process that led to this appointment.

We Palmers are admittedly sad about our upcoming transition from this wonderful community of faith. You have blessed us deeply in the four years we have served Christ together. Together we have journeyed through dark valleys into a place of growing hope and peace. You have faced great challenges and have risen up in remarkable faith. Truly this "Alive! In Christ" community is blessed with amazing staff and lay leadership and has a limitless future in God's grace. I have great confidence that God will lead the Bishop and Cabinet to appoint an outstanding Senior Pastor for this important church to continue God's work in the greater Allen area and beyond. Your Staff-Parish Relations Committee will be in consultation with our District Superintendent Frank Alegria over the next few days. Soon they will meet the new Senior Pastor and make this announcement to the congregation in worship. Staff-Parish Chairperson Jodi Dehondt ( has made herself available to respond to questions that you may have about this process. I know that you will be in prayer and will welcome your new Senior Pastor with the same open arms that we received in 2009.

Four years ago we left a beloved congregation and came to a new place - Suncreek. Soon the 'new place' became a wonderful, grace-filled spiritual home for me, Lisa, Caleb, Jacob, and Olivia. We have loved our time with you and have made memories and relationships that we will cherish eternally. We look forward to making more memories with you over the next three months. While I wish that I could have told each of you this news in person, know that I look forward to many great experiences and moments with each of you in coming days as we continue the journey toward Easter and beyond. Suncreek family, you will be in our hearts and prayers always. Please keep us in yours.
