Cantate, our youth choir for students in grades 7-12, took a
Summer Concert and Missions Tour in June 2006. Students ministered through
their music to residents at the Georgetown Retirement Residence in
Washington, DC and in concerts at Lovely Lane UMC (the founding church of
Methodism) in Baltimore, MD, Old Otterbein UMC (the founding church of the
United Church of the Brethren) in Baltimore, MD and at the Cathedral of St.
John the Divine in New York City. During their service in two food banks (Maryland and New
York) they sorted, packaged and processed enough food to provide over 4,000
meals for local soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Music is a powerful medium for
ministry. Whether it’s serving a meal in a shelter, touching the hand and
heart of an elderly person in a retirement center or singing in magnificent
worship spaces, these students are all about serving God through their music
and their lives. |
