St. Lukas United Methodist Church Sanctuary
This photo was taken from the balcony. There is a dome ceiling over the chancel area. The roof is in great need of repair. The church was built in 1887 by English speaking tourists that regularly visited the city.
The church has beautiful stained glass windows.
All of the the windows need some repair. Several of the windows need new sections of glass.
This beautiful fresco depicts Peter and Paul and is near the chancel area.
The church currently meets in a room on the second floor of a residential building that is adjacent to the church sanctuary. The room is next to an apartment for the pastor's family. Sunday School for children is held in the pastor's apartment.
City and Regional government funding permitted repair of about half of the roof to begin in August 2005. These government grants require that the church raise some matching funds to pay for the renovation.
